Doha is the capital of Qatar and a transformational city, with huge investments from the Qatari authorities to cultural landmarks.
Cool and modern, the city of Qatar rests on Doha Bay. This trendy waterfront city is home to numerous parks and the Corniche Promenade. The promenade is a great place for stopping off for a bite to eat; Al Mourjan for example in the Balhambar building offers plenty of classic Lebanese dishes. The building itself is a charming pavilion that lights up a vibrant pink at night. Take a seat on the terrace and watch the world go by as you soak up the atmosphere on the bay.
There’s plenty of other attractions for you to enjoy such as the world-renowned Museum of Islamic Art and its fascinating artifacts. The museum is designed by IM Pei and is considered to be Qatar's most iconic building.
If it’s retail therapy you’re after, perhaps you’d prefer to wander Souq Waqif; the city’s premier shopping destination. Barter for jewellery in the Gold Market or sample the homemade pancakes and tasty cakes. You can even come face to face with birds of prey in the Falcon Market! The Fabric and Spice Markets are sure to be a big hit, too. Keep your eyes peeled for locals playing the popular Arabic board game, Aldama.
Perhaps surprisingly, Doha is home to plenty of lush green spaces. Sheraton Park and Rumeilah Park for example are particularly popular with locals and tourists alike. Sheraton Park is also home to the Msheireb Enrichment Centre which houses photographs of Doha in the 1950s.
The city is certainly growing from strength to strength, with a new metro system and the 2022 FIFA World Cup not far away, Doha is a city on the rise.
Most of the attractions can be visited during a hop-on-hop-off tour on one of the Yellow Doha Buses. Alternatively you can contact us for bus rentals or coach hire services. It’s a cheap and reliable way to pack more into your trip without the hassle of public transport.
